Apple Watch Series 12 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 9: Which Is Better in 2026?

Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 vs Apple Watch Series 12

Apple Watch Series 12 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 9: Which Is Better in 2026?

Introduction :

Deciding between the Apple Watch Series 12 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 may sound like an easy Apple vs Samsung decision. In reality, your phone, health priorities, charging habits, preferred design, and budget will probably matter more than any single specification.

For iPhone owners, the Apple Watch has always been the obvious choice. It integrates tightly with Apple services, notifications, health data, workouts, safety features, apps and other devices in the Apple ecosystem. Apple’s current Series 11 already has health-focused features, 5G cellular capability and up to 24 hours of claimed battery life, giving us a useful baseline to understand what its successor could improve on.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch line serves a similar role for Android users, particularly people who own a Samsung Galaxy phone. The Galaxy Watch8 family now includes wellness tracking, smart features and Samsung’s ecosystem integrations. The expected Galaxy Watch9 will likely build on that platform rather than completely reinventing Samsung’s smartwatch formula. Samsung has not yet announced the final Galaxy Watch9 specs, so take unconfirmed reports of the device’s features with a pinch of salt.

For many shoppers, that difference in compatibility makes the decision an easy one.

An Apple Watch is designed primarily for use with an iPhone. The Galaxy Watch is for Android phones, with the most complete experience usually available to Samsung Galaxy users. Thus, the ‘better’ watch is not necessarily the one with the most features. This is the one that actually works with the phone you already have in your pocket.

However, compatibility is only the beginning.

Premium smartwatches now compete across several important areas:

  • Workout and activity tracking
  • Heart and wellness insights
  • Sleep monitoring
  • Safety and emergency tools
  • Smart notifications
  • Voice assistants and AI features
  • Mobile payments
  • Music and app support
  • Battery life
  • Charging convenience
  • Comfort and appearance
  • Cellular connectivity
  • Long-term software support

Apple is expected to introduce a newer processor, watchOS 27 features and more AI integration to the Series 12. Apple has officially previewed watchOS 27 with a more capable Siri experience powered by Apple Intelligence. Feature availability, supported languages and device requirements may vary.

Samsung’s next watch will probably run its latest iteration of One UI Watch and Wear OS with greater emphasis on AI-assisted wellness, Android integration and fitness guidance. Those are fair expectations based on Samsung’s current wearables path but don’t take into account any final Galaxy Watch9 details until Samsung officially announces the device.

Which watch has more features?

A more useful question is:

Which watch gives me the best experience with my phone, health goals and daily routine?

This comparison will help answer that question.

The Most Important Difference: Your Smartphone :

Before comparing sensors, processors, display brightness or battery life, check which phone you use.
This is the single most important part of the Apple Watch Series 12 versus Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 decision.

Apple Watch Series 12 and iPhone

Apple Watch setup and everyday operation are built around the iPhone. The Watch app on iPhone handles pairing, syncing, watch faces, notifications, apps, music and many other settings.

  • Fast and reliable syncing
  • Easy notification management
  • Apple Health integration
  • Apple Pay support
  • Access to Apple services
  • Smooth communication between Apple devices
  • Strong continuity between the watch and iPhone
  • Familiar Apple privacy and account controls

Some Samsung health or ecosystem features require a Samsung account, a compatible Samsung phone, specific region, approved software version or additional app. Buyers should check the final compatibility requirements when the Galaxy Watch 9 is officially announced.

Galaxy Watch 9 and Android

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch family is designed around Android and Wear OS. It is expected to work especially well with Samsung Galaxy phones, where Samsung can provide the deepest integration with its health software, device settings and Galaxy ecosystem.

Potential advantages include:

  • Google Play apps
  • Google Maps access
  • Google Wallet support
  • Samsung Health integration
  • Customizable watch faces
  • Android notification support
  • Samsung ecosystem features
  • Greater choice across Android phones

Some Samsung health or ecosystem features require a Samsung account, a compatible Samsung phone, specific region, approved software version or additional app. Buyers should check the final compatibility requirements when the Galaxy Watch 9 is officially announced.

Early Buying Recommendation :

For most buyers, the choice can be simplified:

Buy the Apple Watch Series 12 if you use an iPhone.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 if you use a Samsung Galaxy or another compatible Android phone

The decision becomes more complicated only when you are choosing between entire ecosystems or when one specific feature—such as battery life, sleep tracking, workout guidance, cellular connectivity or health monitoring—is especially important to you.

Later sections of this comparison will examine those differences in detail.

Important Pre-Order Advice

Don’t make any purchase decisions solely on the basis of leaked or rumored health features, as neither watch has had its final specifications fully released at the time of writing.

  • Official US pricing
  • Exact case sizes
  • Display specifications
  • Battery ratings
  • Charging speed
  • Phone compatibility
  • Health sensor availability
  • FDA-cleared or regulated features
  • Cellular carrier support

A rumored feature can be delayed, restricted by region or omitted from the final product. Health-related capabilities may also require regulatory approval before becoming available in the United States.

Quick Bottom Line :

For most iPhone users the Apple Watch Series 12 is probably the smarter buy, with its tight integration with Apple Health, Apple Pay, notifications, apps and the wider Apple ecosystem.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy or Android phone and want Wear OS apps, Google services, Samsung Health, customisable software and a traditional circular watch design, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 is probably a better choice.

At this point, neither model can be crowned the final winner in terms of hardware specs, as the final products have yet to be officially detailed.

Apple Watch Series 12 Review :

Apple Watch Series 12 Review: Apple’s Smartest Watch Yet?

Apple has led the high-end smartwatch market for years. The Apple Watch is no longer just an accessory, it’s become an everyday companion that tracks workouts, delivers notifications, lets you pay at checkout and monitors your heart health.

If Apple sticks to its usual September launch schedule, the Apple Watch Series 12 will continue that tradition with a faster processor, better AI features, improved health tracking and tighter integration with the Apple ecosystem. We’re not looking for a complete redesign but the next generation should be about making the overall experience smarter, faster and more useful in day to day life.

That’s what iPhone users care about.

Apple generally concentrates on software, sensors, battery optimization and ecosystem integration to improve the experience, instead of chasing new, flashy hardware every year. That’s part of why the Apple Watch is always one of the world’s best-selling smart watches.

If you already have an iPhone, or plan to get one, the Apple Watch Series 12 will probably be the benchmark against which all other smartwatches are measured.

Design & Build Quality

Apple rarely changes the overall look of the Apple Watch, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
The square design has become instantly recognizable. It maximizes screen space, makes reading notifications easier, and provides more room for apps and widgets than many circular smartwatches.

Based on current reports, the Series 12 is expected to retain the same premium construction with:

  • Aluminum case
  • Stainless Steel or Titanium options
  • Rounded corners
  • Digital Crown
  • Side Button
  • Water Resistance
  • Swim Proof Design
  • Premium interchangeable bands

Rather than reinventing the hardware, Apple is expected to refine it with improved durability and more efficient internal components.

Winner

Excellent Build Quality

Apple has consistently delivered one of the best-built smartwatches on the market, and the Series 12 is expected to continue that reputation.

Display:

One of the biggest strengths of every recent Apple Watch has been its display.
Even outdoors in bright sunlight, Apple Watches are known for their vibrant colors, deep blacks, and excellent touch responsiveness.

The Series 12 is expected to feature:

  • Always-On Retina Display
  • OLED panel
  • High brightness
  • Excellent viewing angles
  • Smooth animations
  • Thin bezels
  • Automatic brightness adjustment

For everyday use—checking messages, maps, workouts, or weather—you simply won’t struggle to see the screen.
Apple’s rectangular display also allows more information to appear at once compared to many round smartwatches.

Display Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Expected)

Performance:

Performance has never been an issue with modern Apple Watches.

Apps launch quickly.

Animations remain smooth.

Notifications arrive instantly.

Voice commands respond almost immediately.

Rumors suggest Apple could introduce a newer-generation chip in the Series 12, bringing faster processing and better power efficiency than the chip used in previous models.

That means users can expect:

  • Faster app launches
  • Better multitasking
  • Improved Siri responsiveness
  • More efficient background processing
  • Better battery optimization

Although raw speed isn’t something most users notice every day, smoother performance makes the watch feel more responsive over several years of ownership.

watchOS 27 Makes the Biggest Difference

The real upgrade may not come from hardware.

It comes from watchOS 27.

Apple has already previewed several software improvements that make the Apple Watch feel more intelligent than previous generations. These include Siri AI integration, smarter fitness guidance, improved app navigation, and refinements focused on speed and usability.

Some of the expected highlights include:

  • Smarter Siri
  • Better Apple Intelligence integration
  • Improved Smart Stack
  • Faster app launcher
  • Better notifications
  • More personalized widgets
  • Workout improvements
  • Better battery efficiency
  • Improved health insights

Unlike many smartwatches that depend mainly on hardware upgrades, Apple continues adding meaningful features through software updates.

That’s a major reason many users keep an Apple Watch for four or five years.

Siri AI Gets Smarter-

One of the biggest changes in watchOS 27 is the arrival of Siri AI, a more capable version of Apple’s voice assistant powered by Apple Intelligence when paired with a compatible iPhone. Siri can better understand follow-up questions, continue conversations across devices, and perform more useful everyday actions.

Instead of simple commands like:

You’ll eventually be able to ask more natural questions such as:

  • Remind me about today’s meeting.
  • What’s on my grocery list?
  • Start my outdoor run.
  • Send a message to Sarah.
  • Find the restaurant John recommended.

This makes the Apple Watch feel much closer to having a true AI assistant on your wrist.

Health & Wellness Features :

Health tracking has become Apple’s biggest competitive advantage.

The Series 12 is expected to continue supporting features such as:

  • Heart Rate Monitoring
  • ECG
  • Irregular Rhythm Notifications
  • Blood Oxygen (where available)
  • Sleep Tracking
  • Sleep Stages
  • Respiratory Rate
  • Temperature Sensing
  • Cycle Tracking
  • Fall Detection
  • Crash Detection
  • Emergency SOS
  • Medication Reminders
  • Mindfulness
  • Noise Monitoring

Apple is also rumored to be exploring new biometric features in future generations, but any additions beyond current capabilities remain unconfirmed until officially announced.
For many buyers, these health tools are the biggest reason to choose an Apple Watch.

Fitness Tracking:

Whether you’re a casual walker or training for a marathon, Apple offers one of the strongest fitness experiences available.
The Apple Watch supports dozens of workout types, including:

  • Running
  • Walking
  • Hiking
  • Cycling
  • Swimming
  • HIIT
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Strength Training
  • Rowing
  • Elliptical
  • Dance
  • Outdoor Sports

The Workout app is expected to gain additional coaching and AI-assisted insights through watchOS 27, helping users better understand their performance over time.

Battery Life :

Apple strikes a balance where battery life is concerned.

Apple isn’t looking for multi-week endurance, but rather is looking to deliver good performance and advanced features on a daily charging routine.

Apple has not confirmed battery specs for the Series 12 at this point. Battery life is expected to be in line with previous generations for the most part with hardware and software optimizations providing efficiency gains rather than a massive increase in runtime.

Many users still find overnight or evening charging a natural fit for daily use.

Apple Ecosystem Integration:

This is where Apple continues to separate itself from the competition.
If you own an iPhone, everything works together naturally.

Examples include:

  • Apple Health
  • Apple Fitness+
  • Apple Pay
  • Apple Maps
  • AirPods
  • Mac Unlock
  • Find My
  • Apple Music
  • HomeKit
  • iCloud Sync
  • Family Setup

This seamless integration is difficult for competing ecosystems to match.

Who Should Buy the Apple Watch Series 12?

The Apple Watch Series 12 is expected to be an excellent choice if you:

✅ Own an iPhone

✅ Want the best smartwatch apps

✅ Care about health tracking

✅ Exercise regularly

✅ Use Apple Pay

✅ Want excellent software support

✅ Prefer premium build quality

✅ Already own other Apple devices

Our Verdict on the Apple Watch Series 12:

Even before its official launch, the Apple Watch Series 12 looks poised to remain the top recommendation for iPhone users. Rather than introducing a radical redesign, Apple appears focused on refining what already works: smooth performance, reliable health tracking, intelligent software, and deep ecosystem integration.

If you already use an iPhone, the Series 12 is expected to deliver one of the most complete smartwatch experiences available in 2026. Buyers looking for seamless connectivity, advanced fitness tools, and long-term software support will likely find it to be the strongest option in Apple’s lineup. Final judgments on battery life, pricing, and any new health sensors should wait until Apple officially unveils the device, but based on what is currently known, the outlook is very promising.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 Review

Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 Review: The Smartwatch to Watch for Android Users?

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to become one of the most important Android smartwatches of 2026.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch family has developed into much more than a basic notification device. Recent models combine fitness tracking, sleep analysis, heart-health tools, navigation, mobile payments, communication features and access to Wear OS apps in a design that still looks like a traditional wristwatch.

For Android users—especially people who own a Samsung Galaxy phone—the Galaxy Watch 9 may be the most natural alternative to the Apple Watch Series 12.

Samsung has not yet confirmed the Galaxy Watch 9’s final hardware. However, the company’s current Galaxy Watch8 provides a strong indication of where the next generation could go. The Watch8 introduced a thinner and lighter design, a brighter display, improved processing, longer battery life, new health features and Samsung’s redesigned cushion-shaped case.

Samsung has also announced newer AI-powered health experiences intended to move its watches beyond passive data collection and toward more personalized, proactive guidance.

That direction could make the Galaxy Watch 9 especially attractive to buyers who want a watch that does more than count steps.

It is expected to help users better understand their sleep, workouts, stress, recovery and everyday wellness while still delivering the smart features people expect from a premium wearable.

The most important point, however, is compatibility.

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to be designed for Android phones. It should provide its deepest integration when paired with a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Some health, communication or ecosystem functions may require a compatible Samsung phone, Samsung account or region-specific software.

For Android users, that makes the Galaxy Watch 9 one of the most promising smartwatch choices of 2026. For iPhone users, it is unlikely to provide the seamless experience offered by an Apple Watch.

Design and Build Quality:

Samsung’s biggest visual advantage over Apple is its traditional circular design.

While the Apple Watch uses a recognizable rectangular case, Galaxy Watches generally look more like conventional wristwatches. That can make them easier to wear with business clothing, casual outfits or formal attire.

The latest Galaxy Watch8 introduced a new cushion-shaped case around its circular display. Samsung also redesigned the lug system so the band could sit closer to the wrist, helping improve comfort and sensor contact. According to Samsung, the Watch8 became thinner, lighter and brighter than earlier models.

The Galaxy Watch 9 could retain and refine that approach.

Expected design characteristics include:

  • A circular display
  • A slim metal case
  • Multiple case sizes
  • Replaceable watch bands
  • Physical side buttons
  • Water resistance
  • Swim tracking
  • An always-on display
  • Bluetooth and LTE versions
  • Multiple color options

Samsung may also continue separating the standard Galaxy Watch from its Classic and Ultra models.

The standard Watch 9 would likely focus on everyday comfort and mainstream pricing. A future Classic version could emphasize a more traditional watch appearance and possibly a rotating control system. The Ultra family would remain the more rugged and expensive option for outdoor use.

None of those model details should be treated as confirmed until Samsung officially publishes the lineup.

Design Verdict

The Galaxy Watch 9 should appeal strongly to shoppers who want modern smartwatch technology without the obvious square appearance of an Apple Watch.

Its circular face can blend more naturally with traditional watch styles, and Samsung typically provides extensive watch-face customization.

Early design rating: 4.5 out of 5

Display Quality:

Samsung has extensive experience producing high-quality AMOLED displays, and its current watches reflect that expertise.

The Galaxy Watch8 uses a full-color Super AMOLED always-on display protected by sapphire crystal. Samsung offers the standard Watch8 in 40mm and 44mm sizes, with the larger model using a 1.47-inch display and the smaller model using a 1.34-inch display.

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to continue using a bright AMOLED panel with:

  • Deep blacks
  • Vivid colors
  • Smooth animations
  • Strong viewing angles
  • Automatic brightness
  • Always-on display support
  • Outdoor visibility
  • Touch controls
  • Customizable watch faces

A circular screen looks attractive, but it does have a practical disadvantage.

Text, notifications and lists often fit more efficiently on the Apple Watch’s rectangular display. The Galaxy Watch’s round screen can trim content near the edges or require additional scrolling.

That does not make Samsung’s display worse. It simply reflects a different design philosophy.

Samsung prioritizes the appearance of a traditional watch, while Apple prioritizes a screen shape that resembles a miniature phone interface.

Display Verdict

Expect the Galaxy Watch 9 to deliver one of the strongest displays available on an Android smartwatch.

Early display rating: 4.5 out of 5

Performance and Everyday Speed

The current Galaxy Watch8 uses Samsung’s Exynos W1000 processor, built on a 3nm process, with 2GB of memory. The standard Watch8 includes 32GB of storage, while the Watch8 Classic provides 64GB.

Samsung has not confirmed what processor the Galaxy Watch 9 will use.

However, the next generation will likely focus on:

  • Faster app loading
  • Smoother menu navigation
  • Better background efficiency
  • More responsive health tracking
  • Improved voice-assistant performance
  • Faster syncing with Galaxy phones
  • Better battery management
  • More on-device AI processing

Smartwatch performance is not only about benchmark scores.

The watch needs to wake quickly when you lift your wrist, launch workouts without delays, respond to taps, process sensor data and deliver notifications reliably. Even small delays can become frustrating because people interact with a watch in short bursts throughout the day.

Samsung’s recent watches have improved substantially in this area. The Galaxy Watch 9 should continue that progress, although independent testing will be needed before it can be compared fairly against the Apple Watch Series 12.

Wear OS and One UI Watch

One of Samsung’s greatest strengths is its combination of Wear OS and One UI Watch.
Wear OS provides access to Google’s broader smartwatch platform, while Samsung adds its own interface, health tools, watch faces and Galaxy ecosystem features.
The current Galaxy Watch8 runs Wear OS 6 with One UI 8 Watch.
The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to launch with a newer version of this software combination, although the exact version has not been officially confirmed.
Potential benefits include:

  • Google Play Store access
  • Google Maps
  • Google Wallet
  • YouTube Music
  • Gmail notifications
  • Calendar integration
  • Samsung Health
  • Custom watch faces
  • Third-party fitness apps
  • Smart-home controls
  • Voice-assistant access

This gives the Galaxy Watch a more open software experience than many proprietary fitness watches.

Users can install apps, change watch faces, customize tiles and connect the watch with a wide range of Android services.

AI-Powered Health Guidance :

Samsung is putting more emphasis on turning health data into practical advice.

In June 2026, the company announced next-generation Galaxy Watch features designed to provide more proactive and personalized daily health insights instead of simply showing users raw measurements.

That is an important change.

Most smartwatches already collect large amounts of information. They record heart rate, workouts, sleep duration, steps and stress measurements. The difficult part is helping the user understand what to do with that information.

The Galaxy Watch 9 may place greater emphasis on questions such as:

  • Did you recover well enough to train today?
  • Are your sleep habits becoming less consistent?
  • Is stress affecting your daily routine?
  • Should you reduce workout intensity?
  • Are you maintaining healthy activity patterns?
  • Which habits may be affecting your wellness scores?

Samsung has described its newer direction as moving from passive tracking toward proactive guidance. The final Watch 9 feature set remains unknown, but this software strategy may become one of the watch’s biggest selling points.

Samsung Health Experience

Samsung Health serves as the center of the Galaxy Watch experience.

It organizes data from the watch and compatible connected devices into one main platform. Depending on device and region, users may be able to review:

  • Daily activity
  • Steps
  • Exercise
  • Calories
  • Heart rate
  • Sleep
  • Stress
  • Body composition
  • Blood oxygen
  • ECG information
  • Menstrual-cycle information
  • Nutrition
  • Mindfulness activities
  • Running progress
  • Wellness scores

Samsung also allows certain Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring data to work together inside Samsung Health, giving users another option for continuous health monitoring.
The app is comprehensive, although the amount of information can feel overwhelming at first.
Samsung will need to keep improving its presentation so users receive useful advice without becoming buried in charts, scores and measurements.

Health-Monitoring Features:

Based on Samsung’s existing watches, the Galaxy Watch 9 may include or build upon several health tools.

Expected capabilities include:

  • Continuous heart-rate monitoring
  • High and low heart-rate alerts
  • ECG support
  • Blood-oxygen tracking
  • Sleep-stage monitoring
  • Stress measurements
  • Skin-temperature tracking
  • Body-composition estimates
  • Fall detection
  • Emergency functions
  • Cycle tracking
  • Irregular heart-rhythm notifications
  • Sleep-apnea-related tools where supported

Availability can vary significantly.

Some features may require:

  • A Samsung Galaxy phone
  • The Samsung Health Monitor app
  • A Samsung account
  • A supported country
  • A minimum age
  • Regulatory clearance
  • Specific watch placement
  • Periodic calibration
  • A Bluetooth or LTE connection

Consumers should not assume every advertised health feature will work on every Android phone or in every US location.

A smartwatch also should not be treated as a replacement for professional medical testing. Health data can be helpful for identifying patterns, but concerning symptoms should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.

Antioxidant Index:

One of Samsung’s most unusual recent wellness features is Antioxidant Index.

Samsung says the feature uses its BioActive Sensor to estimate carotenoid levels stored in the skin. Carotenoids are associated with certain fruits and vegetables, and Samsung presents the measurement as a way to help users understand longer-term lifestyle patterns.

The measurement is interesting because it goes beyond the standard heart-rate-and-steps formula used by most smartwatches.

However, buyers should keep realistic expectations.

It is a wellness insight, not a complete nutritional assessment. Diet, skin characteristics, device placement and other factors may affect measurements.

It can provide motivation, but it should not replace dietary advice from a qualified professional.

Sleep Tracking:

Sleep tracking is likely to remain one of the Galaxy Watch 9’s strongest features.

Samsung’s current wearable software includes tools such as:

  • Sleep duration
  • Sleep stages
  • Sleep consistency
  • Snoring detection
  • Blood-oxygen information
  • Sleep coaching
  • Bedtime guidance
  • Energy or recovery insights
  • Sleep-apnea monitoring on supported devices and in supported regions

The Galaxy Watch8 added Bedtime Guidance and other health enhancements intended to help users build healthier routines.
For many people, useful sleep tracking depends on one practical factor: battery life.
A watch cannot analyze sleep if it needs to sit on the charger every night. Samsung therefore needs to balance display brightness, sensor accuracy and smart features with enough battery life for overnight use.
The Galaxy Watch 9 may be especially compelling if Samsung can extend real-world endurance without making the case significantly heavier.

Fitness and Workout Tracking

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to support a broad selection of workouts for both casual and serious users.

Likely activity modes include:

  • Walking
  • Running
  • Cycling
  • Hiking
  • Swimming
  • Strength training
  • Treadmill workouts
  • Elliptical training
  • Rowing
  • Circuit training
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • High-intensity interval training
  • Outdoor sports

Samsung’s current software also includes a Running Coach feature intended to provide structured, personalized running guidance.

The next watch could improve:

  • GPS accuracy
  • Heart-rate accuracy during exercise
  • Automatic workout detection
  • Interval training
  • Recovery guidance
  • Route tracking
  • Pace alerts
  • Running form information
  • Workout summaries

Serious athletes should still wait for independent testing.

Smartwatch GPS and optical heart-rate sensors can perform differently depending on skin contact, movement, weather, workout type and location. A product’s laboratory specifications do not always reflect outdoor performance.

Body-Composition Measurements

Samsung’s BioActive Sensor has allowed recent Galaxy Watches to estimate body-composition information from the wrist.
Measurements may include estimates related to:

  • Body fat
  • Skeletal muscle
  • Body water
  • Body mass index

This can make the Galaxy Watch appealing to users tracking changes over time.

However, wrist-based body-composition readings should be treated as estimates. Hydration, recent meals, exercise and measurement technique can affect results.

The most useful approach is to take readings under similar conditions and focus on long-term trends rather than reacting to a single number.

Battery Life

Battery life may be:come one of the most important areas in the Galaxy Watch 9 vs Apple Watch Series 12 comparison.

The current standard Galaxy Watch8 uses a 325mAh battery in the 40mm model and a 435mAh battery in the 44mm version. Samsung lists WPC-based wireless fast charging.

The final Galaxy Watch 9 battery capacities and runtime are not confirmed.

Possible improvements could come from:

  • A more efficient processor
  • A larger battery
  • Improved display efficiency
  • Better background-app management
  • Smarter health-sensor scheduling
  • More aggressive power-saving tools
  • Software optimization

Samsung already includes power-saving and Watch Only modes on compatible watches, allowing users to extend runtime when full smartwatch functions are not needed.

In practical use, battery performance will depend on:

  • Always-on display usage
  • Screen brightness
  • GPS workouts
  • LTE connectivity
  • Sleep tracking
  • App use
  • Notifications
  • Voice-assistant activity
  • Health-monitoring frequency

Samsung may offer better charging flexibility than Apple, but that conclusion should wait until both 2026 watches undergo independent real-world testing.

Google Gemini and Voice Assistance

Samsung has increasingly connected its Galaxy devices with AI-powered tools.
The Galaxy Watch 9 may include closer integration with Google Gemini, Samsung’s own Galaxy AI services or both.
Potential voice-controlled tasks could include:

  • Starting workouts
  • Creating reminders
  • Sending messages
  • Checking weather
  • Opening navigation
  • Adding calendar events
  • Controlling smart-home devices
  • Asking follow-up questions
  • Summarizing selected information

Voice assistance is especially useful on a watch because typing on a small screen is rarely convenient.

The quality of the feature will depend on response speed, internet access, phone compatibility and whether important actions can be completed directly on the watch.

Notifications and Communication:

A premium smartwatch should reduce how often you need to pull out your phone.

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to support:

  • Call notifications
  • Text messages
  • App notifications
  • Email previews
  • Quick replies
  • Voice dictation
  • Emoji responses
  • Calendar alerts
  • Alarm syncing
  • LTE calling on supported models
  • Contact access

Samsung Galaxy phone owners will likely receive the most complete integration.
Users of other Android brands may still receive strong basic functionality, but certain Samsung-specific tools may not be available.
Google Maps and Navigation

Google Maps is one of the strongest reasons to choose a Wear OS watch.

Turn-by-turn directions on the wrist can be useful when:

  • Walking through a city
  • Riding a bicycle
  • Traveling
  • Finding a parked vehicle
  • Following directions without holding a phone
  • Navigating while carrying bags

The circular screen may display less written information than the Apple Watch’s rectangular panel, but Samsung’s rotating or touch-based controls can make navigation manageable.

Offline-map support, battery consumption and GPS accuracy will be important areas to test on the final Galaxy Watch 9.

Mobile Payments:

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to support contactless payment through compatible wallet services.

This may include Google Wallet and Samsung’s payment ecosystem, depending on device, bank and region.

Paying from the wrist is useful when:

  • Exercising without a wallet
  • Using public transportation
  • Buying coffee
  • Making a quick convenience-store purchase
  • Traveling
  • Keeping a phone stored safely

Payment availability depends on participating financial institutions and regional support, so buyers should check whether their preferred bank and cards are compatible.

Music and Media Controls:

The Galaxy Watch 9 should provide music playback and controls through supported apps.

Expected functions include:

  • Play and pause controls
  • Track skipping
  • Volume adjustment
  • Bluetooth-earbud connection
  • Playlist access
  • Offline downloads through supported services
  • Podcast controls
  • YouTube Music integration
  • Spotify support

An LTE version may allow users to stream supported content without keeping their phone nearby, although this can consume battery quickly.

Galaxy Ecosystem Integration:

The Galaxy Watch 9 will likely provide its best experience when used with other Samsung products.

Potential ecosystem benefits include:

  • Samsung Health syncing
  • Galaxy Buds controls
  • SmartThings device controls
  • Samsung phone notifications
  • Camera-controller features
  • Find My Mobile or SmartThings Find
  • Samsung account syncing
  • Galaxy Ring integration
  • Samsung Wallet services
  • Shared modes and routines

This is Samsung’s answer to Apple’s tightly connected ecosystem.
Apple may still feel more consistent across devices, but Samsung offers more flexibility because it operates within the larger Android and Google ecosystem.
Compatibility: Samsung Phone vs Other Android Phones:

The Galaxy Watch 9 should work best with a Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

A Galaxy phone may be required for the most complete access to:

  • Samsung Health Monitor
  • ECG features
  • Blood-pressure-related tools where available
  • Camera controls
  • Samsung-specific modes
  • Galaxy ecosystem syncing
  • Certain AI capabilities

Users with Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus and other Android phones may still have access to Wear OS apps, notifications, fitness tracking, Google Wallet and basic Samsung Health features.

However, buyers should check Samsung’s official compatibility list before purchasing.

The Galaxy Watch 9 should not be considered a natural option for iPhone owners unless Samsung explicitly announces full iOS support.

Who Should Buy the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9?

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to be a strong choice for people who:

  • Own a Samsung Galaxy smartphone
  • Use another compatible Android phone
  • Prefer a circular watch design
  • Want Google and Samsung services on the wrist
  • Track sleep regularly
  • Want detailed wellness information
  • Use Samsung Health
  • Prefer extensive watch-face customization
  • Want access to Wear OS apps
  • Need GPS workout tracking
  • Want optional LTE connectivity
  • Prefer a smartwatch that resembles a traditional watch

Who Should Skip the Galaxy Watch 9?

The Galaxy Watch 9 may not be the best option for people who:

  • Use an iPhone
  • Want several days or weeks of battery life
  • Prefer a very simple fitness tracker
  • Dislike daily or near-daily charging
  • Need medically certified measurements from every sensor
  • Want identical features on all Android phone brands
  • Prefer Apple Health and Apple Pay
  • Already own a recent Galaxy Watch with similar software

Owners of the Galaxy Watch8 should wait for the final Watch 9 announcement before upgrading. A new generation is not automatically worth buying if the improvements are mostly software-based.

Our Early Verdict on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9:

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 has the potential to become the best mainstream smartwatch for Samsung Galaxy users in 2026.

Its likely combination of a premium circular design, AMOLED display, Wear OS apps, Samsung Health, Google services and AI-powered wellness guidance should make it one of the most complete Android wearables available.

Samsung’s current Watch8 already provides a strong foundation. It introduced a thinner body, brighter display, improved processing and health features such as Bedtime Guidance, Running Coach, Vascular Load and Antioxidant Index.

The Watch 9’s success will depend on whether Samsung can deliver meaningful improvements in the areas that matter most:

  • Longer real-world battery life
  • More accurate workout tracking
  • Better health-data explanations
  • Faster software performance
  • Fewer Galaxy-phone-only restrictions
  • Comfortable all-night wear
  • Competitive US pricing

For Samsung phone owners, the Watch 9 is likely to be the most logical premium choice.

For users of other Android phones, it may still be excellent, but compatibility details should be checked carefully.

For iPhone owners, the Apple Watch Series 12 will remain the more practical option.

The Apple Watch Series 12 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 battle isn’t just about which watch has the brightest display or the longest feature list. These two devices are expected to be different ecosystems, design philosophies and health tracking methodologies.

Apple is all about the tight iPhone experience. Samsung is combining its Galaxy ecosystem with Google’s Wear OS platform, opening up Samsung and Google services to Android consumers.

Both 2026 watches don’t have a full official spec sheet released, so this head-to-head uses the Apple Watch Series 11 and Galaxy Watch8 as the most reliable hardware foundations. It also looks at Apple’s confirmed watchOS 27 features and Samsung’s announced next-gen AI health direction.

1. Design and Appearance-

The design difference is immediately noticeable.

The Apple Watch Series 12 is expected to continue Apple’s rectangular case with rounded corners. The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to retain Samsung’s circular display and more traditional wristwatch appearance.

Apple Watch Series 12 Design

Apple’s rectangular shape is not as traditional, but it is practical.

A rectangular screen provides more usable space for:

  • Text messages
  • App menus
  • Maps
  • Health graphs
  • Notifications
  • Workout statistics
  • Calendar information
  • Smart Stack widgets

The Digital Crown also provides a precise way to scroll through menus without covering the display with a finger.

Apple’s current Series 11 has a thin case designed for comfortable all-day and overnight wear. Apple also offers a large ecosystem of first-party and third-party bands, making it easy to change the watch’s appearance.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 Design

Samsung’s circular display looks more like a conventional watch.

This is a significant advantage for people who want a smartwatch that works with:

  • Office clothing
  • Business attire
  • Formal outfits
  • Casual clothing
  • Traditional watch faces

Samsung’s Watch8 introduced a cushion-style case surrounding the circular display. It is available with replaceable bands and physical buttons, while the Watch8 Classic adds a rotating bezel. Samsung may refine this design for the Watch 9, but the final case style has not yet been confirmed.

Design Winner: Samsung Galaxy Watch 9

For shoppers who want the watch look: Galaxy Watch 9 takes the win.
The Apple Watch still wins out for practicality in displaying information, but Samsung’s round design will probably feel more natural with a wider range of outfits.

2. Comfort and Everyday Wear-

A smartwatch needs to be comfortable enough to wear during work, exercise and sleep.

Apple’s current Series 11 is promoted as the company’s thinnest smartwatch and is designed for around-the-clock use. Samsung also emphasized comfort when introducing the Watch8, including a thinner profile and redesigned case intended to sit more securely on the wrist.

Comfort will depend on:

  • Case size
  • Watch weight
  • Band material
  • Wrist shape
  • Sensor placement
  • How tightly the watch is worn
  • Whether it is used overnight

Apple’s rounded rectangular case distributes its footprint across a wider area. Samsung’s circular body may feel more familiar, but the shape can sit differently depending on wrist size.

Comfort Winner: Tie

Both companies place strong emphasis on all-day and overnight comfort.

The better choice will probably depend on your wrist and preferred case shape rather than a major quality difference.

3. Display Shape and Usability-

Both watches are expected to use premium OLED or AMOLED technology with rich colors, deep blacks and always-on functionality.

Apple’s Rectangular Display

Apple’s display is better suited to digital content.

It can show more complete lines of text and use screen space efficiently for:

  • Notifications
  • Lists
  • Messages
  • Apps
  • Workout metrics
  • Maps
  • Email previews

The interface feels like a small extension of the iPhone.

Samsung’s Circular Display

Samsung’s circular display feels more natural with analog-style watch faces.
The current Watch8 features a sapphire crystal protected Super AMOLED always-on display. On the basic Watch8 models, the displays are Samsung at 1.34 and 1.47 inches.
The downside is that circular edges can restrict the area available for text. Longer messages and lists may require some more scrolling.

Display Winner: Apple Watch Series 12

Samsung may offer an equally attractive panel, but Apple’s rectangular shape is more efficient for reading, apps and everyday smartwatch tasks.
Choose Samsung when appearance matters more. Choose Apple when information density matters more.

4. Watch Faces and Customization-

Samsung has always been a bit more flexible with visual modification.

Wear OS provides customers access to a large selection of watch faces through Google Play and Samsung’s software ecosystem. Users can customize the complications, colors, layout and information panels.

Apple also offers nice watch faces and complexity, but it has more control over the experience. Unlike Wear OS, users can’t install entirely independent third-party watch faces in such an open manner.

Customization Winner: Samsung Galaxy Watch 9

Samsung is the better choice for buyers who frequently change layouts, colors and watch-face styles.
Apple’s options are polished, but Samsung provides greater freedom.

5. Performance and Responsiveness-

Apple has always had great smartwatch performance because it develops hardware, CPU, operating system and iPhone integration as a whole system.
The Series 12 is also likely to come with a new or updated Apple Watch CPU, but the final chip has not been disclosed.
The latest Galaxy Watch8 is powered by Samsung’s five-core Exynos W1000 chip developed on a 3nm technology and 2GB RAM. The base model comes with 32GB of storage.

Both watches should feel fast during normal use, including:

  • Opening apps
  • Starting workouts
  • Responding to messages
  • Viewing notifications
  • Moving through menus
  • Activating a voice assistant
  • Loading music
  • Checking maps

However, Apple’s end-to-end control usually creates a more consistently optimized experience.

Performance Winner: Apple Watch Series 12

The Series 12 is the early winner for smoothness and long-term responsiveness.
Samsung should still provide strong daily performance, and the difference may be small for casual users.

6. Operating System: watchOS vs Wear OS-

The operating system affects nearly every part of the smartwatch experience.

Apple Watch Series 12 Software

The Series 12 is expected to ship with watchOS 27.

Apple has confirmed that watchOS 27 will introduce a new Siri experience powered by Apple Intelligence, along with interface and responsiveness improvements. Some AI features will require the watch to be paired with an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone.

watchOS is known for:

  • Smooth animations
  • Clear menus
  • Strong accessibility
  • Apple Health integration
  • Reliable notifications
  • A mature app ecosystem
  • Apple Pay
  • Apple Maps
  • Fitness and safety tools

Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 Software

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to combine a newer version of Wear OS with Samsung’s One UI Watch interface.
The current Watch8 launched with Wear OS 6 and Gemini built in. It combines Google services with Samsung Health, Samsung watch faces and Galaxy ecosystem features.

Wear OS provides access to:

  • Google Play
  • Google Maps
  • Google Wallet
  • Gemini
  • YouTube Music
  • Gmail notifications
  • Third-party Android apps
  • Samsung Health
  • SmartThings

Software Winner: Tie

Apple offers the more polished and tightly integrated experience.
Samsung offers more flexibility and access to both Google and Samsung services.
Your smartphone should decide the winner:
  • iPhone owner: Apple Watch Series 12
  • Samsung Galaxy owner: Galaxy Watch 9
  • Other Android owner: Galaxy Watch 9, after checking compatibility

7. Health Tracking-

Health tracking will be one of the most important parts of this comparison.
Both companies offer extensive health information, but their approaches are different

Apple Watch Health Strengths

Apple focuses on presenting health information clearly and connecting it with the Health app on iPhone.

Based on the current Series 11 platform, the Series 12 may support features such as:

  • Continuous heart-rate monitoring
  • High and low heart-rate notifications
  • ECG
  • Irregular rhythm notifications
  • Sleep tracking
  • Sleep score
  • Temperature sensing
  • Cycle tracking
  • Vitals
  • Blood oxygen where available
  • Hypertension-related notifications where available
  • Hearing and noise insights
  • Medication reminders

Apple’s current Series 11 highlights hypertension notifications, sleep score and advanced health sensors, providing a strong basis for the Series 12.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Health Strengths

Samsung collects a wider range of wellness-oriented measurements through Samsung Health and its BioActive Sensor platform.

Current Galaxy Watch capabilities include or may include, depending on model and region:

  • Heart-rate tracking
  • ECG
  • Blood oxygen
  • Sleep monitoring
  • Skin-temperature tracking
  • Stress tracking
  • Body-composition estimates
  • Energy Score
  • Sleep-apnea detection
  • Advanced Sleep Coaching
  • Personalized heart-rate zones
  • Antioxidant Index
  • Vascular Load
  • Running Coach

Samsung’s Watch8 already emphasizes Energy Score, advanced sleep coaching and sleep-apnea detection. Samsung has also announced a 2026 shift toward more proactive, AI-powered daily health guidance.

Health Features Winner: Tie

Apple wins for clarity, ecosystem consistency and presenting important health information in an approachable way.
Samsung wins for the volume of wellness measurements and experimental insights.
Neither smartwatch should replace a doctor or clinical medical device.

8. Heart-Health Features-

Apple has developed a particularly strong reputation around heart-related monitoring.
Features such as ECG, irregular rhythm notifications and high or low heart-rate alerts are integrated into Apple’s broader health and safety ecosystem.
Samsung also offers ECG and heart monitoring, although availability may depend more heavily on region, phone compatibility and the Samsung Health Monitor app.

Heart-Health Winner: Apple Watch Series 12

Apple receives the early advantage because of its mature presentation, clear notifications and strong iPhone Health integration.
Samsung remains highly capable, but buyers should carefully verify regional and phone requirements.

9. Body-Composition and Wellness Measurements-

Samsung has a clear advantage in body-composition tracking.

Recent Galaxy Watches can estimate information such as:

  • Body fat percentage
  • Skeletal muscle
  • Body water
  • Body mass index

Samsung also continues exploring unusual wellness measurements that go beyond standard heart rate and steps.
Apple takes a more conservative approach and does not currently offer an equivalent wrist-based body-composition feature on its mainstream Series model.

Body-Composition Winner: Samsung Galaxy Watch 9

This category is an easy Samsung win.

However, users should treat wrist-based body-composition readings as estimates and focus on trends rather than individual measurements.

10. Sleep Tracking and Coaching-

Both watches can track sleep duration, stages and overnight health information.

Apple Sleep Tracking

Apple’s current platform includes sleep stages, sleep score and overnight Vitals data. Its strength is simplicity.
The information is organized inside Apple Health and presented without overwhelming the user.
The current Series 11’s 24-hour battery rating also makes overnight tracking more practical than it was on older Apple Watches.
